It’s not always about being popular.

Written on January 28, 2010 at 14:26

It does not seem possible that an entire year has already passed since President Obama took the reins of an Out of Control America.

And, so you might ask… are we better today than we were just one short year ago.

The answer for me is yes… and no.

And even though Right Wing Pundits want to throw stones at the current administration for the problems that still exist today, hoping against hope that we will all believe that we have just recently arrived at this disaster! They appear ostrich-like in their view of the out of control and downward spiraling economy as Bush led the charge, not even attempting to halt it in its early and rapidly growing stages. Yes, according to them, the problems we have as a nation today are somehow all Mr. Obama’s fault. However, as President Obama so aptly pointed out last night, he did indeed inherit a colossal disaster from the previous administration.

Moody Monday

Written on January 25, 2010 at 18:08

Days that are shades of grey and feeling empty and alone.

It can sometimes be too quiet….

However, I keep telling myself that spring is coming.

The Treatment of Five Hundred…

Written on January 19, 2010 at 21:07

I am pretty sure that even if you live under a rock that you probably know about the story of five loaves and two fishes and a meal for five thousand.

Seem impossible?

Yeah, it does to me as well.

And, even with all my culinary skills I am more than certain that I could not feed fifty with those meager ingredients, hell five might even be a stretch!

Likewise, I could in no way shape or form even begin to make a dent in treating five hundred patients like the doctors and nurses of Medecins Sans Frontieres did yesterday. Having the tiniest bit of experience in patient care tells me that fifteen patients would be a plateful and more than I could handle, and that is under pristine conditions. So when I read this story and I allow the magnitude of that task to circle around my brain a bit, I am left in awe and wonder at such an incredible feat.

And, unfortunately, it is a task that is nowhere near its completion.

I heard on the news today, as I am sure you did, that the death toll will probably reach well into the hundreds of thousands and yet somehow, miraculously, they are still finding survivors in the rubble. Wounded and injured people are still in need of food, shelter, and medical help.

Therefore, I will give one more plea to all of you… if you have not yet donated to the relief effort in Haiti, please consider a donation to Medecins Sans Frontieres. Thank you!

A Unifying Rally Cry…

Written on January 14, 2010 at 20:54

I was never more appalled nor ashamed of the comments made by the leader of the amoral majority, Pat Robertson regarding the disaster that has befallen Haiti.

Yes, you read that right, amoral.

However, today my President put Mr. Robertson in his place and did so far better than I ever could with these words of wisdom that he shared today, the entirety of his speech can be found here…

“To the people of Haiti, we say clearly, and with conviction, you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten. In this, your hour of greatest need, America stands     with you. The world stands with you. We know that you are a strong and resilient people. You have endured a history of slavery and struggle, of natural disaster and recovery. And through it all, your spirit has been unbroken and your faith has been unwavering. So today, you must know that help is arriving — much, much more help is on the way.”

Bravo, Mr. President, well said!

I would like to invite all of you, Gentle Readers, to stand united with the Citizens of Haiti. If you’d like to make a contribution to assist in the recovery, I would encourage you to do so with Medecins Sans Frontieres – Doctors Without Borders, you can do so via this link.
