The end of July is upon us and that means I have some new things to share with you all!
My July Loopy Safari project was Thea Coleman’s Greyhound Shawl – I knit mine out of BMFA Socks that Rock and it turned out very well! I liked the pattern very much – it will be a welcome item come fall – just enough to keep the chill away with rich deep colors!
I would absolutely knit this again and I have plans to do so with some Miss Babs Northumbria, which is, 100% BFL and I think it will give me an entirely different shawl – something lighter and with more drape. In addition, I think it will also block out more crisply but I will make a few minor adjustments to the pattern. It seems that I am a tight knitter and my edges do not stretch as nicely as I would like them to so I will modify the slipped stitch edging to give them a bit more yarn by doing a yarn over when I knit them. I read this on a blog somewhere, I am sorry I do not remember where, but I think this will help the edges stretch while keeping the look of the slipped stitches. I will keep you updated as to how this works out.
Two Safari projects down and just one remaining; I have my yarn and project selected the only thing to wait for is August 1. I am knitting something that has been on my “Knit List” for a very long time – Laura Aylor’s Litchfield Shawl. My yarn choice is Madelinetosh Merino Light in some lovely muted shades that will be perfect for chilly September nights. Out of all the things I will have knit this summer, this one might just be my favorite. I am eager to cast on and have swatched to determine what needles I want to use so I am all ready to begin!
But the biggest and best news of all is the arrival of my first grand baby, Genevieve Lee who was born on July 21st.
She is, of course, perfect. I am now a Nana and that makes me very happy indeed. I will be heading back to Michigan in September to spend some time with them and I cannot wait.
Until then, there will be some knitting to do and some gardening to attend to – lots to keep me busy.
