In a few short weeks, my first grand baby will be here and I could not be more excited. As you can imagine, I have been doing some knitting for this little one. It was a pleasant task to knit my favorite baby sweater pattern – EZ’s Baby Surprise Jacket for my first grand baby! I think it turned out beautifully and it will get some use before she grows, as it is chilly at night in Northern Michigan. I made a pair of Saartje’s Booties and a rolled brim hat with the remainder of the skein. I am eager to head to Michigan tomorrow to spend some time with my daughter, attend her baby shower, and enjoy all things baby for a few days.

Baby Knitting

About twenty-eight years ago, I made the baptismal gown that my kiddos wore when they were baptized and that gown is now going to get some use again with the new baby coming! I  carefully washed and pressed it so it is all set for the next generation to wear. I might have to keep the sewing machine out to make some things for this new baby. I started by making a couple of easy quilts and I have one more to finish, which I hope to get done today.

Heirloom Baptismal Gown

I also pulled out something from the UFO (UnFinished Object) Box and finished it! This makes sweater #3 for me this year. To be honest all I had to finish was one sleeve and the neck edging so not much knitting. It is sad that it sat unfinished for so long. However, I am enjoying my Browned Buttercup very much. First time knitting with Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy, which I think I got at WEBS. I thought the yarn was nice, but I really like the washed fabric. This is the first pattern I have knit designed by Heidi Kirrmaier and I found it to be a well-written pattern. I hope that I will get a few more UFO’s done this summer between Camp Loopy projects.

Browned Buttercup

Beyond all this craftiness – I have been enjoying the fruits and vegetables of the season – strawberries, asparagus, kale, broccoli, rhubarb, and kohlrabi are a few that we have been recently feasting on. My garden is going to be overflowing with peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes very soon, but in the meantime visiting the local farmer’s markets is so very nice. So much good food, so little time – I made some Strawberry Freezer Jam and have also I froze some whole berries for use once the berries are no longer in season. I really am enjoying preserving things to use when they are no longer in season. However, I have not figured out a good way to preserve asparagus which I really need to figure out because it would be so nice to be able to enjoy it beyond the season.  I have been poking around a very interesting blog and I hope to find some inspiration there for this years canning.
